The history of hotel garni “Iris am See” 

    


In 1958 the married couple Julius and Hilde Graesslin decided to build the first hotel garni on the peninsula Mettnau, with the Mettnau health resort still being in its first steps, showing other resorts the way.

Remarkable, that some of the single bed- and double bedrooms had already shower and toilet at that time. In the years to follow, the hotel “Iris am See” became more popular to holiday-guests, who found silence and rest here. The incomparable location at Lake Constance builded up their strength again. Even business people found their way to the hotel.

As time went on the demands of the guests grew stronger, the main reason for modernizing and the extention of the hotel garni Iris am See” by the married couple Gottfried and Iris Müller (daughter of Mrs Graesslin) in 1976. After six months of construction time, the job was done. An extended building with two single and two double bedrooms was build, all of the rooms equipped with shower, toilet and telephone. The new building matched the Main building perfectly. The spacious decorated entrance and the small and quite comfortable reception rounds it off. The rooms are comfortably and very friendly decorated, in order to make everyone feel at home.

The guest lounge, which is the breakfast room in the morning, in the afternoon a nice Café and in the evening a typical German wine-lounge, was redecorated and is now open to hotel guests, naturally, and passers-by, who just want to enjoy a glass of local wine from the area around Lake Constance and even have a small snack from the Vesper-card! Away from noise and exhaust fumes in the middle of the Mettnau Park, overlooking Lake Constance and its beautiful background, you will simply drift away on the newly extended and redecorated terrace.

In spring 2002 Alexandra, the daughter of Iris and Gottfried Müller, took over the hotel garni “Iris am See” together with her husband Sven Nickels. They modernized the breakfast room and the out side area of the terrace at the end of 2002. Now the hotel guests can enjoy a bright and quite comfortable winter garden, overlooking the “Untersee”, the Radolfzell part of Lake Constance.

In spring of 2005 there are five bedrooms to be modernised and to get new furniture. In january 2008 a few rooms were modernised and get new furniture.
